Why Movin’ for Marianne Relays
My name is Carolyn and I Relay for my mother in law Marianne Paone. Shortly after my husband Dominic and I got married my mother in law was diagnosed with Stage 4 inoperable lung cancer after never smoking a day in her life – things can be unfair at times. I Relay because she can’t. I try to be her voice and find comfort knowing that she didn’t fight in vain.
A few months into her treatment I became pregnant with my first child. My whole pregnancy was her light at the end of the tunnel to get healthy and meet her first grandchild. Sadly, that never became a reality and after almost a year of fighting, my mother in law passed away and 4 days later I gave birth to my daughter Rosalie
I Relay so my now 3 children always know how strong my mother in law was. They never got a chance to meet her but they all know about the person who she was and the legacy she leaves. Relay for Life is an inspirational weekend where we pay tribute to not only my mother in law but all the nameless faces that fight the same fight she bravely took on. We Relay, Remember, and Fight Back in her honor.
