RFL of Greater Shelby Township April 15, 2024
It’s so close I can almost taste our Recipe for a Cure at Relay for Life of Greater Shelby Township on Saturday May 18 11am – 11pm at River Bends Park located at 5700 22 Mile Rd, Shelby Township, MI 48317.
Recipe of the Week: Looking for a tasty dish for vegetarians or vegans? Check out this recipe for Sesame Noodles that can be served hot or cold. I can’t make them too often because I will eat the whole batch. Find the recipe here
Campsite selection: Those at the last meeting were able to sign up for their campsites. If you were not there and want to keep the spot you had last year, let me know. If you no longer need a campsite, let me know. If you need a campsite, let me know. You can text me or send an email to chris45925@aol.com
Calling all Silent Auction participants: Queen of the Silent Auction Carolyn Paone sent out a reminder email with more details about Silent Auction. Read it here. If you are bringing things to the Silent Auction, she needs to know so she can plan for the right number of tables to display your items. Please contact her with your plans per the email message.
ACS Grant for Brock Humphries: Diana and Kevin Humphries son Brock was recently awarded a grant from ACS on a ‘pay-if’ basis which means when the funds become available, the grant will be paid. The funds we are raising will be going toward Brock’s studies of the role of mitochondria in breast cancer stem cells and why cancer evades current therapy, and why cancer metastases to other organs. Let’s all make sure he and other researchers have the funds needed to do their work effectively and to have those funds as soon as possible!
Michigan Relay for Life Spring Challenge: Raise $250 between April 22 to May 10 and earn a “Celebrate – Remember – Fight Back” light blue hooded long sleeve sun shirt. This is a perfect weight for summer and will help you Fight Back against the sun’s rays!
Deadline for Sponsorships is April 19. If you know a local business that would like to be a part of our event, please let April know ASAP at april.busch@cancer.org. There are many levels of participation/costs, with something for every budget!
Survivor Coupon Book: As part of our gifts to survivors we will be handing out coupon books. If you would like to have a little treat or gift for survivors to redeem at the event, we will be making a list for Kim of Carolyn’s Quest to print and have available the day of the event. In the past people have given out cookies, trinkets, even hugs. Those with a limited number of items can include the disclaimer “while supplies last” on their coupons. Coupon ideas will be due in two weeks so let us know what you are offering!
Volunteer hours: If you are a high school student or know a high school student in need of volunteer hours, we will be sending out our Sign Up Genius link to all my high school teacher/service club connections this week with some new opportunities. If any slots are left by next week, they will be posted here.
